The new school year is in full swing and off to a great start!

The varsity volleyball team competed in a tournament this past Saturday at Newberry Academy. The girls showed off the skills that they have been developing during their rigorous summer practices. They beat Laurens Academy in two games to capture the victory. This was very exciting for the girls since Laurens is who they defeated last year to win the State title. The team faced King Academy in their second game. It was a well-played game by both teams, but Wardlaw was unable to come away with the win. The pre-season tournament gave the team an opportunity to practice against good competition and find out what they need to work on before region games begin.

The junior varsity volleyball team had a coaching change this past week. Mrs. Kathy James and Mrs. Christie Warnken will now be coaching the team. They both have a vast knowledge of the game, and they will be able to share this with the girls on the team. We are all looking forward to supporting them this season.

Both the junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams began their regular season schedule on Monday, August 18, against Greenwood Christian School. The two teams will travel to Anderson Christian on Thursday, August 22, to compete in their first region game.

The varsity football team traveled to Andrew Jackson Academy on Friday night to watch a jamboree. The teams participating were Abundant Life Academy, Andrew Jackson Academy, Jefferson Davis Academy, Bowman Academy, Faith Christian Academy, and St. Paul’s Academy.  This gave them an opportunity to scout a few the other teams and give the team an idea of what they will be competing against in the weeks to come.

The varsity cheerleaders participated in a camp last week. They learned new cheers and dance routines that they will be performing at pep rallies and football games. This year’s captain is Carlie Condrey and the co-captain is Britnee Goldman.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at Wardlaw has been busy planning for a new school year. The huddle leaders this year include Kara Beck, Briggs Belcher, Ali Graves, Jessica Rutland, Orry Courtney, Douglas Herlong, and Tony Keenan. Please keep these students in your prayers as they prepare to lead their peers closer to Christ. The huddle leaders plan to meet this week for dinner and to finalize their mission plans for the school year. They are planning a trip to Clemson University in September to attend the annual Rally in the Valley. A few of their mission projects for the school year include Christian music in the mornings, prayer walks before athletic events, prayer around the flag pole on Thursdays, and a blessing each day before lunch. Please be in prayer for our FCA as they work to share the Word of God with others at Wardlaw and in our community.
